De dans van niemand/Nobody’s Dance
And now the book is really printed and available! If you can’t wait, you can order it online here. You’ll probably have a copy in your hands before I do. Next Monday I’ll be in Amsterdam, where my publisher, Sanne Broekhuis, will hand me a copy. This will happen at The Library Bar in the Ambassade Hotel. It’ll be an intimate little celebration, and you’re welcome to join. More info can be found here. I’ll also bring some copies back to Italy, for those who prefer to pick one up here.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this book come into being – to all the people who also want to be a little less somebody. How wonderful it is to dance this life with you!
This morning I stepped outside into the freezing cold to go to the compost toilet. It was cold on my bare skin, but above me stretched a magical dark blue sky, the silhouette of the mountains, and just one remaining celestial body—a bright point of light. Jupiter, or maybe it was Venus. Ida didn’t know either. I found myself wondering what luxury really is: a warm bathroom, or the kind of silence and beauty that can be felt so deeply. A warm bathroom has never moved me to tears.
In this book, I want to share my inquiry into Freedom and Love. I’ll do so by telling my own story. I’ll speak about the choices I’ve made, the trials I’ve endured, the questions I’ve asked myself, and the guiding threads I’ve discovered. I’m not a teacher who knows things. I’m a dancer, an artist, a writer, a woman who investigates. The questions matter more to me than the answers, and I love stories and humanity. In stories, we can recognize ourselves—and that alone allows us to feel how deeply we are connected.
